Nice web site.

Re your English sayings:
—————
Watch your “p”s and “q”s. Dot your “i”s and cross your “t”s.
Meaning: These both mean the same thing: Be careful.
Watch what you are doing. Check your work.
———–

p&q stand for pro/quo in Latin.
The meaning is that you should consider all the factors for
and against an idea before

I always thought that ‘mind your p’s and q’s’ meant to make sure you say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. p’s sounds like ‘please’ and when you say ‘thank you’, sound is similar to ‘q’.

Thanks, your site helped me with my homework. Although, your "Never look a gift horse in the mouth" is slightly mislabeled. Vets and trainers still look at a horse’s teeth to check its age.
Great site!

Hey! Like you, English is my second language, and even though I am totally fluent I sometimes run across saying that take me a little time to figure out! Thanks for putting these together!

I'll add another one to the list. I thought minding your p's & q's referred to the days when type was set by hand. Letters were reversed on the type in order to print correctly. So the p's looked like q's and vice versa. Therefore, minding your p's & q's meant "Pay attention so as not to make a mistake."
